I am excited to tell you about my newest challenge to myself. In November, I am going to join the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. It's is a walk of 60 miles over 3 days, camping out at night with all the other women and men who will gather to support this great cause.
I have long admired friends of mine who have done similar events but I never quite got around to getting myself motivated to do it myself. My Aunt Nancy, my mother's sister, had been battling breast cancer for a few years with many struggles on and off. I have never even met Nancy, but I thought that even so, doing something on her behalf would be a great idea. Sadly, Nancy lost her battle with breast cancer just a couple of months ago. I know many people who have been touched by breast cancer when either themselves, or a mother, an aunt, a cousin, or a friend have battled this disease.
In order to join the walk each person has to raise a minimum of $2,300! I am starting now to spread the word and ask for any donations that can be given. I am also working on getting a couple of businesses to sponsor me as well. (Donations are made with a flat amount of money, and NOT by paying per mile walked.)
Last Fall I started running. Well, I started walking, then added some running, and now I mostly run! I enjoy it for many reasons but I also know it is an excellent way to train for the 3-Day Walk. I will be posting my progress as I build up my endurance and try to further how many miles I can run at a time. Right now the most I have done is 4 miles. I have a friend who has challenged me to run at least 6 by the end of May (it started as a 10 mile challenge, but due to the weather around here I haven't been able to push the running much and we have agreed on 6 for now....whew!)
I hope that you will follow my progress and encourage me along the way. For more information or to donate, you can click on this link or follow the link at the top right of my blog:
