Life in a small town

Ever since we moved people ask us if we like it here in Blanding, and the answer is yes! But there are some things you city folk probably take for granted that we don't have or do here, so here ya go...

  • The only grocery store in town closes at 9:00 p.m. (and is closed on Sundays) so you have to think ahead and be prepared
  • The next closest town is Monticello ~ about 25 miles away
  • When you drive down the street everyone waves at you
  • There is not a pediatrician or an ob/gyn in town - just good old general practitioners and quite a few nurse practitioners and physician's assistants. If you want a specialist you gotta go out of town
  • There is one pharmacy and it closes at 6 p.m. ~ on Saturdays it closes at 1 p.m and is also closed on Sundays
  • There is a birthing center here, but if you want an epidural...no-can-do...you'd have to go to the hospital in Monticello for that!
  • The closest Wal-Mart is 1-1/2 hours away and in a different state! The closest Target is even further and in an even different state! (I miss Target, but at least I save $ by not going)
  • Most people just let their pet dogs run around town at their leisure!
  • There isn't even a stoplight here
  • The only fast food places are A&W, Taco Time, Subway, and the local burger joint, The Patio (we do, however, have a couple of restaurants that are decent)
  • We live in a dry town ~ my dad just loves that...hehe!
  • We have one movie theater that has one movie at a time with one showing per day ~ always at 7 p.m. ~ no need to call for show times! It is closed on Sundays and Mondays and virtually never shows R-rated movies
  • Almost every house has a trampoline and all summer you see kids sleeping out on them
  • The fire department is all volunteers
  • High school basketball is very popular here! So is football. For girls - volleyball is the favorite sport and very competitive
  • Delaney is going to have to check our family tree before she goes out with anyone! (She recently spotted a boy in her grandparents ward in Monticello who she thought was cute, but alas, came to find out he is a cousin!)
  • There is another kid named Nash Nielson who lives here - who woulda thunk it?

Gotta love small town living! Very funny that Delaney was checking out a boy that ended up being her own cousin.
